The All Blacks first five Dan Carter has been ruled out for the rest of the French season because of a partial tear of the Achilles tendon.

Twenty six year old Carter, who was signed by the Catalan club on a lucrative six month deal reportedly worth nearly 50-thousand US dollars a match, has played just five matches for Perpignan.

His brief stay with the French side, which began in December, was plagued by injury and his time on the pitch amounted to just 361 playing minutes.

Club spokesman Benoit Brazes says there doctor will be in touch with the All Blacks medical staff to decider whether or not Carter will undergo surgery in France.

Carter who is in plaster, faces a major battle to be fit for the Tri-Nations which gets underway on July 18 when the All Blacks face Australia in Auckland.
