The Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting has defended his wicketkeeper after criticism from the New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori over a controversial dismissal.
Vettori was disappointed that Haddin remained silent when Neil Broom was wrongly given out during last night's thrilling two-wicket victory over Australia in the Chappell-Hadlee series opener in Perth.
Broom walked off after he thought he had been bowled but replays show the ball never hit the stumps, with Haddin's gloves removing the bails as he claimed the ball above the woodwork.
Vettori says it seemed from Haddin's reaction that he knew something was wrong so he probably should have made more noise about it.
However the Australian captain Ricky Ponting says his wicketkeeper wouldn't have claimed it if he knew he hit the stumps.
He says if the replays shows Brad is in the clear he'll be letting the New Zealand captain know about it.
