Lam worried about injuries

The Blues rugby coach Pat Lam has admitted he has some worrying injury concerns after naming his side to tackle the Highlanders in their final preseason Super 14 hit-out at North Harbour Stadium this Thursday.

Most of the Blues' All Blacks have been brought back into the starting fifteen, including hooker Kevin Mealamu and winger Joe Rokococo.

But Lam says some key players are unlikely to be ready for the start of the competition in two weeks.

He says winger Rudi Wolf is out for at least four weeks with a hairline fracture in his wrist, while locks Ali and Jay Williams are both out for an undetermined period with back injuries.

Pat Lam says first five is the position of most contention, with Super 14 veterans Jimmy Gopperth and Tasesa Lavea fighting it out with draft player Michael Hobbs for the number 10 jersey.

Flanker Josh Blackie is also yet to join the Blues squad, as he's completing his rugby playing commitments in Japan.
