South Africa's Shosholoza has staged the upset of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series sailing regatta in Auckland, beating the America's Cup holder Alinghi on the final day of the first round robin.

Shosholoza had not won a race so far in the Auckland regatta, but trounced the Swiss at the start and sailed away to the biggest winning margin of the event, 3 minutes and 49 seconds.

Team New Zealand has finished unbeaten at the top of Pool A, with Team Origin unbeaten at the top of Pool B.

BMW Oracle took the other win of the day on Tuesday, with the regatta now take a one-day break before commencing the second round in which the top six teams are grouped together, with the lower four, Shosholoza, Greek Challenge, K Challenge and China Team battling for just one berth in the following round.
