Symonds won't tour South Africa

All-rounder Andrew Symonds has been suspended from international matches by Cricket Australia.

CA says Symonds will not be considered for the tour of South Africa because he needs to undergo counselling.

Symonds will need to fulfil a series of criteria before he is again considered for selection; including a more intensive level of counselling than he is having now, submitting fortnightly updates on his progress and re-committing to personal goals.

Cricket Australia says Symonds's derogatory remarks about New Zealand's Brendon McCullum last month indicated he had not made enough progress in modifying his behaviour.

It will re-assess its decision at the end of the domestic season and he could be considered for the one-day series against Pakistan in April.
