The All Black first five eight Dan Carter will have an operation on his injured achilles in Paris.

His French club Perpignan and the All Blacks doctor Deb Robinson had been in discussions about the injury he suffered playing in a French top 14 match at the weekend.

Carter says the operation will be carried out in Paris by professor Eric Rolland, who was a part of the same medical team that twice operated on Brazilian football striker Ronaldo in 1999 and 2000.

Carter, the 59-Test veteran and 2005 world player of the year, is expected to be out of action for close to 6 months.

Perpignan signed the rugby great who has only played in five matches on a lucrative six-month deal believed to be worth more than a million dollars.
