West Indies in strong position against England

The West Indies are in a strong position after day two of the first cricket test against England in Jamaica.

In response to the the tourists first innings of 318, the home side is 160 for one.

Chris Gayle has reached 71 not out and Ramnaresh Sarwan 74 not out.

The second day was also notable because of the new video referral system.

England claimed the scalp of Devon Smith for six, when he was adjudged lbw, after he completely missed the flight path of a delivery from Andrew Flintoff, and was struck on his left boot.

Umpire Tony Hill initially gave the decision not-out, but under the new decision review system, the batsman was dismissed after referral to the video umpire.

But two other referrals went against the visitors.

The first cost England one of their two incorrect challenges when Andrew Flintoff appealed for an lbw verdict against Sarwan when the delivery was clearly heading down leg-side.

The second saved Sarwan from being dismissed on five, when he was struck playing back to an off-cutter from Steve Harmison.

Hill adjudged him lbw but Sarwan challenged and survived.
