Legat to challenge US 3,000 metres indoor record

The double world champion runner Bernard Lagat plans to attack his US 3,000 metres indoor record in Stuttgart on Sunday New Zealand time after his victory in the Millrose Games last week.

Kenyan-born Lagat, the world 1,500 and 5,000 metres champion, equalled Irishman Eamonn Coghlan's record of seven wins in the Millrose Games' mile.

Lagat says he feels fresh, and hopefully can get close to his American record.

Lagat clocked 3:58.44 on the steeply banked New York track last Friday to repulse a challenge from New Zealand's Olympic bronze medallist Nick Willis.
