The Chelsea football captain John Terry says he was extremely surprised by the sacking of coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Speaking at a news conference before England's friendly against Spain in Seville, Terry says he's very shocked by what's happened.

Terry says Scolari had his full support, he's a great man but they weren't playing well and that unfortunately falls on his head.

He says maybe it should have fallen more on them the players.

Chelsea have been given permission to talk to Russia coach Guus Hiddink about taking over at Stamford Bridge and Terry noted the Dutchman's close relationship with the club's billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich.
