Backers of two-time defending America's Cup champion Alinghi and rival Oracle have made their final legal cases in New York in a complex yachting case now sailing into a final decision.

San Francisco's Golden Gate Yacht Club, backing challenger Oracle, and Swiss club Societe Nautique of Geneva, for Alinghi, made final arguments before the New York State Court of Appeals with both parties expressing confidence afterwards.

Oracle wants to overturn a New York Supreme Court ruling last year that backed a Spanish club as challenger of record for the 33rd America's Cup rather than Golden Gate.

A decision on the matter is expected by the end of March.
