The Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif says he is talking to his lawyer about appealing a one-year ban from the Indian Premier League for failing a dope test.

Asif tested positive for the banned steroid nandrolone during the opening season of the Twenty20 tournament last year, when he played for the Delhi Daredevils.

The bowler is suspended from playing official cricket by the Pakistan and won't be allowed to take part in the second edition of the lucrative tournament in April and May.

Asif was detained at Dubai airport for 19 days last June after a small amount ofopium was found in his wallet.

After being deported to Pakistan, he was told he had also failed the IPL test.

Asif says he'd been expecting the decision and he and his lawyer are exploring whether the ban can be reduced to three months.
