The New Zealand motocross rider Josh Coppins has made a good start to his season with some success in the first round of the Italian Championship in Montevarchi.

Using the event as preperation for the new World Championship season, the Motueka Yamaha rider was fastest in qualifying, won one heat and was leading the other when he was forced out with a mechanical problem.

Coppins says he was really pleased with his riding and he's happy with the progress they're making with the bike.

Coppins next outing is in France, while the first round of the World Championship is at the end of March.
