Wrestler loses CAS appeal

The Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian has lost his appeal to win back the Olympic bronze medal he discarded in protest at last year's Beijing Games.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected Abrahamian's appeal against the International Olympic Committee's decision to disqualify him from the Greco-Roman competition.

Abrahamian came third in the 84kg-category but was disqualified after throwing his medal down at the awards ceremony in protest at what he considered to be bias in the refereeing of his semi-final against Italian Andrea Minguzzi.

The CAS confirmed that the behaviour of the athlete was in breach of the Olympic Charter and of the IOC Protocol Guide.
