Beijing Olympic medallists Marc Ryan and Jesse Sergent took won the New Zealand Madison Championships in Wanganui.
The pair were pushed all the way by fellow Olympic cyclists Sam Bewley and Wes Gough, with the two teams putting two laps on the nine-strong field in the 40km race at Cooks Gardens.
The Madison involves two riders in each team, but only one races at any one time with the other resting, swapping positions with a hand-to-hand sling-shot action.
The New Zealand Omnium title will be decided on the second night of racing tonight in Wanganui.
