The European Union's top sports regulator says he does't oppose UEFA chief Michel Platini's plan to cap football wages and transfer fees.
Several of Europe's leading clubs said they did not support salary caps and the English Premier League said it opposed any European-wide financial regulation of sport.
Some clubs say Platini's plans could face opposition from Brussels if they contradicted the EU's strict internal market and competition rules, leading to costly legal action at the European Court of Justice.
The EU sports commissioner Jan Figel he thinks it is very important sport cares about the fairness, equity and sustainability of the competitions.
He says balance between income and output is beneficial.
Figel says the Commission would need the full details of Platini's proposals before it could make a final decision.
Platini proposes that clubs won't be allowed to spend more than 50 to 60 percent of revenue on wages and buying players.
