Black Sticks lose to India

5:59 pm on 22 February 2009

The New Zealand's men 's hockey team has been beaten 2-1 in the second test against India in Wellington.

It was 1-all at half-time after the Black Sticks repeated yesterday's dream start with Simon Child scoring in the fourth minute.

Good defence kept India out until five minutes before half time when Tushar Khandekar nailed a reverse stick shot from close range.

The deciding goal came in the 40th minute when Sandeep Singh took his third penalty corner, finally hitting the back of the net with his renowned drag flick.

India dominated possession and territory from there on, with the Black Sticks guilty of too many turnovers and of failing to take a chance to equalise in the last minute..

The third and fourth tests are in Auckland next weekend.
