Matai says he will never fully recover from neck injury

Tough Kiwis and Manly centre Steve Matai has been told he'll never fully recover from the neck and shoulder injuries which almost destroyed his 2008 rugby league season.

But Matai, who was part of the New Zealand side that won the world cup against Australia, has vowed not to hold back in the World Club Challenge clash with Leeds next week.

Matai says medical staff have told him there is a lot of scar tissue and he's never going to be a hundred percent but it's something he's going to have to manage.

He says he was in "quite a bit" of pain during his NRL finals and World Cup campaigns last year and needed painkilling injections to get through.
