Younus falls short of record in drawn Test

2:32 pm on 26 February 2009

Younus Khan failed to post the highest Test score by a Pakistani batsman as the first cricket Test against Sri Lanka ended in a draw in Karachi, after some late excitement raised hopes of an unlikely result.

Khan, who was out for 313, says he's not heart-broken about falling 24 short of Hanif Mohammad's record score of 337, let alone Brian Lara' s 400,

But the home team still achieved their highest Test innings of 765 for six after Sri Lanka had declared at 644 for seven.

Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria sparked late interest when he claimed the wickets of Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.

However Thilan Samaraweera and Prasanna Jayawardene played out seven overs to reach 144 for five.

The second and final Test starts in Lahore on Sunday.
