Liverpool chief exec Parry to leave club

Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry is to leave his post at the end of the season, clearing the way for manager Rafael Benitez to sign a new contract.

The departure of Parry is likely to take Benitez closer to finally signing a new contract and end speculation that Real Madrid might try to lure him back to his native Spain.

But the BBC says Parry's exit has nothing to do with Benitez's struggle to secure control of player transfers, instead coming because of Parry and the club's American co-owner Tom Hicks can no longer work together.

Parry has had a strained relationship with Benitez and Hicks, but in November he pledged to stay at Anfield after he was linked with a senior job in the English Football Association's 2018 World Cup bid.
