Manchester United won the English League Cup on penalties against Tottenham Hotspur after the Wembley showpiece had ended 0-0 after extra time.

The Brazilian Anderson struck the winning penalty for United after Jamie O'Hara and Darren Bentley had both missed for the holders Spurs.

Chances were few and far between in the regulation 90 minutes and extra time with Aaron Lennon forcing a good save from United keeper Ben Foster and Cristiano Ronaldo hitting the post in stoppage time.

The victory keeps the Premier League leaders United on course for five trophies this season.
