Drysdale goes one up over Waddell at National Rowing trials

5:59 am on 3 March 2009

The reigning world champion Mahe Drysdale has beaten Rob Waddell for the second time in the space of a week, winning the first single sculls national trial by a boat length, on Lake Karapiro near Hamilton today.

Drysdale also beat Waddell at the national champs on Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel last month.

The national selectors are yet to decide whether they'll run three or five trials for the single sculls but in all likelihood three single scullers will be sent to upcoming world cup events, with the winner of the final world cup event at Lucerne getting the berth for the world champs in Poland in August.
