The first elite title at the New Zealand Track Cycling championships in Invercargill has been won by Invercargill's Tom Scully who delighted the home crowd with victory in the Men's 30 kilometre points race.

The 19-year-old former New Zealand junior representative rode a smart and consistent race in field which included New Zealand representatives Hayden Godfrey and Jason Christie

Scully picked up the big points throughout and excelled in some of the closer sprints to take the title from Waikato Bay of Plenty's Shem Rodger and Godrey, the the Omnium World Champion.

Todcay sees the sprinters in action with qualifying in the morning and finals tonight for both the men and women.

The big incentive for the riders this week is selection for next month's World Championships in Poland.
