The Championship leaders Wolverhampton finally steadied their promotion nerves to claim a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace to go back into pole position to reach English football's Premier League.
Wolves had been showing signs of wilting under the pressure to win promotion having won just one of their last 11 matches but a second half penalty in London sent them five points clear at the top.
Reading stayed in touch with a 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday and can go top of the table if they win their two games in hand on Wolves.
