The New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Steve Tew says SANZAR isn't far away from finalising an expansion to the Super 14 competition.

The SANZAR Executive Committee has been meeting in Dubai and they have appointed a dedicated project manager who will continue to work with an exisiting working party and they remain confident they'll be in a position to present a compelling offer to their broadcast partners by the end of June.

The planned expansion would happen in 2011.

Tew says an expansion in Super Rugby would see geographically based conferences, one in each country, and expanded finals.

The Executive Committee also considered a further report from Argentina and has asked the Working Party to perform further analysis on the viability of Argentina joining the Tri Nations.
