The women's team pursuit has debuted at the New Zealand Track Championships in Invercargill with Waikato-Bay of Plenty qualifying fastest for Friday night's final, more than six seconds faster than second placed Southland.
The Waikato Bay of Plenty team features the former rowing Olympian Sonia Waddell, who took up cycling a few months ago - she's coached by Sarah Ulmer.
The women's team pursuit is a new event with three riders in a team instead of the men's four.
New Zealand's already had success at World Cup level with Alison Shanks, Lauren Ellis and Kaytee Boyd winning gold in Beijing earlier this year.
Canterbury qualified fastest for the women's 500 metres team sprint final, while Auckland qualified fastest for the men's 750 metres team sprint final.
