New Zealand wraps up Davis Cup tie

7:23 am on 8 March 2009

New Zealand has wrapped up its Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Group II clash against Malaysia with a 3-0 thrashing indoors at the Albany Tennis Park.

Dan King-Turner and GD Jones didn't drop a set in the doubles or on the first day of play when

Rubin Statham and King-Turner won their singles.

King-Turner and Jones easily beat Malaysia's Yew Ming Si and Adam Jaya 6-1 6-4 6-2 in one hour 44 minutes.

The team captain James Greenhalgh says it's one step closer to the ultimate goal this year, Group One.

But he says the ties will get harder and it'll be a step up for their next opponents, Indonesia or Kuwait.

The reverse singles start at 11am Sunday.
