Three New Zealand golfers are well placed going into the final round the New Zealand PGA

Championship at Clearwater near Christchurch.

Steve Alker's five-under par 67 has him 10 under for the tournament in a tie for second with the Australian Kurt Barnes.

They're one shot behind the leader Steve Friesen of the United States and one ahead of a group of five players including New Zealanders David Smail and Danny Lee.

Smail finished with a 68 and the 18-year-old amateur Lee a 69.

Josh Geary's the next best placed New Zealander at eight under in a share of ninth.

But the overnight co-leader, the Wellington left-hander Gareth Paddison, has slipped to a share of 14th with a two over 74.
