Mason takes over White Ferns captaincy

6:37 am on 10 March 2009

The New Zealand womens cricketers Vice Captain Aimee Mason will take the captaincy reigns for her side's second World Cup fixture against the West Indies in Sydney today.

With skipper Haidee Tiffen bothered with a quadricep niggle and opening bowler Kate Pulford also out through a shoulder strain, The White Ferns have withdrawn both players to ensure the injuries are managed successfully.

Aimee Mason experienced the captaincy role last season in two ODI's against the touring English side, but this is the first time she has captained her country in a World Cup.

In their first matches New Zealand beat Australia and the Windies beat South Africa.
