Golfers hoping for good weather

7:48 am on 12 March 2009

All the golfers will be hoping for a bit better weather around Queenstown over the next four days as the New Zealand Open gets underway on the Hills Course today.

The course is damp after rain this week and it has been cool. A high of 16 is forecast for today.

The soft course will now play longer which doesn't suit the likes of Sir Bob Charles, who turns 73 on Saturday and admits he can't hit it as long as the rest.

The Australian Peter O'Malley is also hoping for a change in the weather so he can continue his recent good form.

He says he's been hitting the ball really well and is feeling good, so as long as the Queenstown weather holds up he should play well.
