The Hamilton golfer Steve Alker is a shot off the leaders at the halfway stage of the New Zealand Open in Arrowtown.

Four other New Zealanders made the cut: Josh Geary, Grant Waite, David Smail and Michael Long.

Geary's the next best at a share of seventh on seven under par, three shots behind the joint leaders, the American Jeff Gove and the Victorian Jason Norris who are on 10 under par.

Top amateur Danny Lee missed the cut, set at one under, after a 77, so he exits his home Open along with the veteran Bob Charles, who shot a second round 79.
