Toulouse has defeated Castres 26-11 to return to the summit of the French Top 14 rugby competition.

Toulouse lead Perpignan by a point in the standings while Stade Francais are third, four points off the lead after slumping to a shock 22-16 loss at Montauban.

Backrow forward Gregory Lamboley and replacement centre Remi Lamerat scored Toulouse's two tries with discarded international fly-half Frederic Michalak kicking 16 points.

Meanwhile, big-spending Toulon have been beaten 32-29 by second-placed Perpignan courtesy of a last-minute drop goal.

Toulon, who announced the signing of Argentine centre Felipe Contepomi midweek, saw their battle against relegation suffer a jolt when David Mele sent over a drop goal in the first minute of injury time to secure victory for Perpignan.
