Tapper gets help from Rally NZ

Rally New Zealand has announced it will support Kiwi rally driver Mark Tapper in his bid to put together a full Production World Rally Championship (PWRC) campaign in 2009.

Last year Tapper won the Asia Pacific segment of the new global Pirelli Star Driver competition launched by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) with the prize being a fully-funded drive in six World Rally Championship events in 2009.

Four of the events Tapper will contest as a Pirelli Star Driver are also PWRC events.

So in a bid to advance his international career as quickly as possible Tapper plans to add two further PWRC events, Rally Argentina and Rally Australia, to his schedule to be in the running to earn points in the PWRC, which is a feeder series for the full WRC.

Rally New Zealand chairman Chris Carr says the decision to include Tapper in Rally New Zealand's newly-launched Rising Stars driver development programme was one the directors were happy to make.
