Phil Mickelson has overcame illness and dehydration to edge fellow American Nick Watney by one stroke at the latest World Golf Championship event in Florida.

Mickelson yesterday was forced to visit a hospital after feeling weak and lethargic.

Mickelson says during his final round he didn't have enough energy to think about what others were doing and he fought hard all day.

He says he hasn't eaten much in three days and yet still playing great golf.

It's Mickelson's 36th victory on the US PGA Tour.

The world number one Tiger Woods, in his first strokeplay event since his eight month layoff following his knee injury, finished on 11 under-par after his round of 68, enough to tie for ninth.

The New Zealander Mark Brown finished in a share of 46th.
