Australia beat Pakistan

5:49 am on 17 March 2009

Australia have beaten Pakistan by 107 runs at Bankstown Oval to keep alive their faint hopes of making next Sunday's women's cricket World Cup final.

The defending champions made 229 for 6 and then dismissed Pakistan for 122 with 4.5 overs to spare.

The victory moved Australia level on points with India and New Zealand in the battle for the second spot behind outright leaders England.

India and New Zealand clash at North Sydney today.

Australia will need to beat England on Thursday and hope either India or New Zealand lose to the weaker West Indies or Pakistan sides respectively, while finishing with a superior run rate to any other team with two losses.
