Taranaki have been dealt a major injury blow with the veteran forward Link Abrams ruled out for the remainder of the National Basketball league season.

The 35 year old Abrams, who hasn't missed an NBL game in six years, ruptured his patella tendon in Friday night's loss to Waikato, midway through the fourth quarter.

He underwent surgery on Saturday but now faces lengthy rehabilitation, being unable to walk for the next

eight weeks and it will be six months before he'll be able to exercise again.

Abrams has been a talisman for the Taranaki side and holds the side's scoring record of 41 points in a match, having achieved the feat several times.
