NZ under 17s beat Japan

11:07 am on 24 March 2009

The New Zealand Under 17 football team has finished its tour of Japan on a high with a 4-3 win over Japan in Fukuoka.

The Young All Whites raced to a 4-1 lead after an hour but suffered some nervous moments as Japan scored twice in two minutes with 15 minutes remaining,

Japan had already qualified for FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria later this year and beat New Zealand 2-1 in the opening game of the Sanix Cup four days ago.

The win last night is a huge fillip for coach Steve Cain's players ahead of their Auckland-based Oceania qualifiers next month.

New Zealand lost two of its seven games in Japan and Cain says scoring four goals against Japan .

is really pleasing.

Andrew Milne, Andrew Beaven, Cameron Lindsay and Jamie Dorris scored for New Zealand who led 2-1 at half-time.
