Ferrari's Felipe Massa is pleased this season's Formula One title will be decided by points not wins, even though he'dhave been champion last year under the 'winner takes all' system.
The sport's international governing body, the FIA, last week said the winner of the most races would take this year's driver's title but then performed a U-turn after pressure from the Formula One team owners.
Massa says a driver may win more races, but maybe very inconsistent, not finishing among the frontrunners in other races, and therefore wouldn't deserve the title.
Massa lost last season's title by one point to McLaren's Lewis Hamilton but won six races to the Briton's five.
The opening race of the season is in Melbourne on Sunday.
