The New Zealand number one and two Rubin Statham and Dan King-Turner are through to the
quarterfinals at the Tennis Futures tournament in Wellington.
Both took three sets and will need another big effort to make the weekend's play.
King-Turner will play the top seed Carsten Ball after coming from a set down to oust another Australian Rameez Junaid.
And Statham, the seventh seed, will face the third seed Adam Feeney from Australia.
Statham also lost the first set but was leading the third 3-0 when Japan's Yuichi Ito retired with an injured ankle.
