Not everyone is happy with Highlanders playing in Palmerston North

The Otago Rugby Union admits not everyone is happy that the Highlanders are playing a home Super 14 rugby match in Palmerston North this weekend.

Palmerston North, which has missed out on Hurricanes matches in recent years, approached the Highlanders about playing a game there and after much discussion the venue was agreed.

The Highlanders attract no more than 5 thousand to some of their matches and chief executive Richard Reid says with gate takings their real only independent income, it is an issue.

The Highlanders-Bulls match is in Palmerston North tomorrow at 5:30.

Close to 4 thousand seats have already been sold for the match with Palmerston North hoping a number of fans in the region will support the team which has been dubbed the Hawkes Bay Highlanders because so many of their players come from the Bay.
