ACT Brumbies lock in coma

The ACT Brumbies lock Shawn Mackay has placed in a medically induced coma after being hit by a vehicle in Durban in South Africa.

Mackay suffered spinal injuries and a broken leg after he was struck by a police armoured response vehicle in Durban in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Brumbies team doctor Warren McDonald says Mackay's in a serious but stable condition and has been placed in a coma while awaitng further surgery over the next two days.

Mackay was recruited by the Brumbies this season after spending the past five years playing rugby league in Sydney.
