Stosur extends hot run to reach last eight at "fifth slam"

Australia's Samantha Stosur has extended her great run at the Sony Ericsson Open tennis tournament in Miami by defeating former world number one Amelie Mauresmo to reach the quarter-finals.

The world No.42, downed the 20th seeded Frenchwoman 6-4 6-4 a day after crushing the world number two Dinara Safina 6-1 6-4.

Stosur will next meet 11th seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus for a place in the semi-finals at an event often dubbed the sport's "fifth slam".

The American fifth seed Venus Williams ousted the Polish 10th seed Agnieszka Radwanska in three sets to reach the final eight along with Danish 13th seed Caroline Wozniacki who upset fourth seed Elena Dementieva 7-5 6-4.

Wozniacki next faces another Russian, eighth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat compatriot Alisa Kleybanova 6-2 6-1.
