Brumbie lock still in coma

6:37 am on 1 April 2009

The ACT Brumbies lock Shawn Mackay is undergoing more spinal surgery and he won't be brought out of a medically-induced coma for another 24 hours or so.

26-year-old Mackay was hit by a vehicle crossing a road in the early hours of last Sunday morning in Durban, after a night out following their Super 14 loss to the Natal Sharks.

Mackay suffered multiple injuries including a cervical spinal fracture and dislocation and compound fractures of his left tibia and fibula.

His parents and girlfriend are now with him.

The Brumbies will be moving on from Durban to play the Central Cheetahs in Bloemfontein this weekend.
