The maul is set to become a major feature in rugby again after a two-day IRB conference in London voted to throw out an Experimental Law Variation which had allowed mauls to be pulled down.
Mauling's been a strength of northern hemisphere teams, especially England, but it's diminished since the change.
However the NZRU's chief executive Steve Tew says it's not a northern hemisphere-southern hemisphere argument .
Tew says southern coaches in London say the maul's making a comeback in the Super 14 as teams get better at stopping opponents pulling them down.
