Indian cricketers pleasantly surprised at Basin Reserve wicket

A green seamer is what the Indian cricketers expected for the third and deciding Test against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve starting on Friday.

What they've got is a pitch that looks to be full of runs.

Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni struggled to hide his delight at the sight of the brown pitch which, while expected, offers pace and bounce, but is unlikely to break up over the five days.

With India one nil up in the series Dhoni had expected a wicket that would offer the seam bowler plenty of assistance.

Instead he says it looks like a good wicket with runs to be had if the batsmen play well, while the wind factor will help both the seamers and the spinners.

Dhoni says he's come through training well and should be right to play, after missing the second Test in Napier with a back strain - but he'll make a final decision in the morning.
