Oracle finally win America's Cup court case

7:02 am on 4 April 2009

The long-running America's Cup legal battle has come to an end with the New York Court of Appeals ruling in favour of Oracle over Alinghi, making the Golden Gate Yacht Club the challenger of record for the America's Cup.

The verdict overturns a ruling last year that backed a Spanish club as the challengers' representative.

The decision means the next America's Cup could be decided by a best-of-three duel involving large multihull boats which has been proposed by Oracle, although the Californian syndicate has indicated a willingness to negotiate with Alinghi over a traditional regatta.
