Tough start for Pulse

7:02 am on 4 April 2009

The Central Pulse have a tough start to their second season in netball's ANZ Championship on Saturday.

After finishing the inaugural season 10th they're in Invercargill to play the Southern Steel, whose coach Robyn Broughton guided the Sting to seven national titles in 10 years before the trans-Tasman competition started.

It's been a long time since the Wellington region's record has been anything like as good as that, although the Central Pulse coach Yvette McCausland-Durie says it produces plenty of talented players,

She says the challenge for the franchise is keeping them.

In other matches in the opening round the Northern Mystics play the Waikato/BOP Magic and the Canterbury Tactics are in Sydney to play the defending champion New South Wales Swifts.
