Oscar De La Hoya, who has held boxing world titles in six different weight classes, has announced his retirement.

The 36-year-old Los Angeles native, arguably the biggest name in contemporary boxing, ended his career with a win-loss record of 39-6, including 30 knockouts.

De La Hoya says knowing he's never going to compete again is tough but he can't continue at the top level.
