Flower confirmed as new England cricket coach

Andy Flower has been charged with the responsibility of trying to restore English cricket's reputation after being confirmed as the new head coach.

The 40-year-old Flower, who had a Test batting average of more than 50 in 63 Tests for Zimbabwe, had impressed England officials during a spell as interim coach on the difficult recent West Indies tour, and he's been an assistant coach of England for the last two years.

He replaces Peter Moores, who was sacked in January after a breakdown in his relationship with former captain Kevin Pietersen.

Flower's immediate assignment is a home series against the West Indies starting next month, followed by the Twenty20 World Cup in England and an Ashes series, also at home against Australia.
