First big basketball tournament in NZ set to be a 2009 highlight

The full schedule for FIBA's 2009 under-19 basketball world championship in Auckland in July has been confirmed.

Sixteen nations from all corners of the world have qualified for the basketball extravaganza including the United States, Argentina, Australia, Croatia, Spain and Greece.

Many of the best players in the NBA have come from previous under-19 world championships and around a hundred player scouts are expected, along with approximately 400 athletes and officials.

The New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks will meet Argentina in the primetime game on the opening day of the tournament on July 2nd.

New Zealand also faces group games against Croatia and Kazakhstan in what is the first ever FIBA tournament to be held here.
