Laureus sports awards scaled back due to global financial crisis

The Laureus World Sports awards will not be presented at a full-scale gala ceremony this year due to the economic crisis and winners will receive their prizes individually.

The organisers say it would be inappropriate to stage a full-scale ceremony at this time.

The former Olympic 400-metre hurdles champion Edwin Moses, who's the chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy, says it was a very difficult decision to scale back the awards.
